The Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence

The Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence (C21TE) at the University of South Florida was established to promote personal reflection and scholarly dialogue on the art, science and craft of university teaching. The Center sponsors publications, workshops, and research which critically examine and promote instructional excellence. In addition, the Center offers opportunities for individuals to improve their teaching effectiveness using classroom visitations and/or mid-semester student feedback.

As part of the University of South Florida's commitment to excellence in teaching, in September 1989, the University proposed the creation of a Center for Teaching Enhancement under the State University Systems's Competitive Grant Program for Enhanced Undergraduate Education. USF's Center for Teaching Enhancement (now C21TE) opened on September 4, 1990, with permanent funding ($143,207 annually) awarded from the State University System's Competitive Grant Program for Enhancing Undergraduate Education. In March 1991, the C21TE was awarded a second SUS Competitive Grant for Enhancing Undergraduate Education ($62,440 annually). These funds created a ten-day summer workshop to help faculty increase student involvement through the use of active learning strategies. The Office of the Provost has subsequently provided the C21TE with annual budget increases to develop and support new activities and programs. The Center is located in the Student Services building in Room 1072.
